The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) will soon be launching a tech-savvy online system that will enable employers, small businesses, companies and entrepreneurs to apply for a UIF compliance certificate (tender letter) from the comfort of their own home or business.
This was announced by UIF Deputy Director: Compliance, Siphamandla Gumede, during a stakeholder engagement session with employers today in Kimberley, Northern Cape. The session was organised by the UIF, an entity of the Department of Employment and Labour. The objectives of the session were to advocate the services of the Department, promote compliance of labour laws, strengthen relations and improve service delivery.
Addressing employers, Gumede revealed that the UIF will be launching an online Compliance Certificate System to do away with the current process of manually completing and submitting a form, sworn statement and SARS tax clearance certificate via email. However, Gumede said once the online system is launched, service delivery would be greatly improved as everything would be faster online thus enabling employers, small businesses and entrepreneurs to apply for a compliance certificate faster. He said applicants will be able to apply online and if successful, the certificate would be received immediately.
Gumede also told the session that companies would also be able to apply for potential businesses faster, including government tenders, as the UIF compliance certificate is often one of the requirements for doing business with the government.
The additional benefits of the new online Compliance Certificate System include:
- Improved turnaround times;
- Elimination of human errors and fraudulent activities;
- Improved employer compliance with UIF regulations pertaining to declaration and contribution of its employees;
- Improved authenticity of the Compliance Certificates produced;
- Improved debt collection;
- Reduction of photocopying and printing costs; and
- Accurate reporting.
Kgomotso Sono from the UIF's Operations unit, encouraged employers to register their businesses, submit declarations and pay contributions through the modernised online uFiling system on www.ufiling.co.za
He added that workers could also register on uFiling to check their registration with their Fund and apply for benefits. Sono also allayed concerns about uFiling, saying the Fund had moved swiftly to remove all bottlenecks on the system.
The session also focused on the amendments to the Unemployment Insurance Act and the UIF's new Parental benefits which permits contributing and qualifying working fathers to claim benefits from the UIF.
