The service delivery campaign dubbed “taking services to the people" which the Department of Employment and Labour in partnership with Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality (DRKKDM) embarked on over the past two weeks saw over R8 000 000 being paid to Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) and Compensation Fund (CF) clients.
This campaign was led by the Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour, Boitumelo Moloi, and the Director-General, Thobile Lamati and one of its main objectives was to see the backlog in service delivery being addressed especially at the two labour centres found in the DRKKDM jurisdictions, which are Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom.
“Klerksdorp labour centre is one of the biggest offices we have in the province and as the Department we could not shy away from the out cry of our clients who had to endure long queues daily hence the office of the Deputy Minister and the Director-General saw it fit that we carryout this kind of campaign to assist in reducing this long queues and backlog which were exacerbated by lockdown restrictions" said Andile Makapela, Chief Director: Provincial Operations in the North West.
Makapela said they were happy with the progress that was made as the queues at these offices were starting to decrease. He says that the Department is also looking into undertaking similar campaigns to two more offices in the Bojanala Platinum District Municipality which are still experiencing long queues. During these campaigns, claims are processed and paid on the spot if all the relevant documentation is provided, thus assisting in reducing queues and backlogs at the Department's offices.
