The Department of Employment and Labour's Klerksdorp Office in partnership with City of Matlosana closed off the Youth Month Celebrations with a Career Exhibition which was held at the municipal offices in Klerksdorp, North West Province.
This Career Exhibition was aimed at creating a favourable platform that would allow the youth and work seekers an opportunity to expand their networks and gain valuable insight about different career opportunities that include among others learnerships, internships, apprenticeships, bursaries and entrepreneurship.
Addressing the attendees, Ms Thandi Ludada, an Employment Counsellor from Klerksdorp Labour Centre, encouraged the youth and work seekers to make use of opportunities that are presented to them in order to improve their livelihood.
“The Department in partnership with other stakeholders who are here, have made available a platform to assist you with information that can lead to some of you being employed, while others may even start their own businesses and eventually become employers and or get bursaries that can enable you to further your studies. We have different stakeholders who are here to impart knowledge with you, go out and ask questions and make sure that when you leave this place, you have a better understanding of what you desire your future to be," said Ms Ludada.
She further encouraged them to use the services that the Department is offering through its Public Employment Services Unit and the Employment System of South Africa (ESSA) database.
“Our services to work seekers are free. We offer work seeker services that include registration on the ESSA database, match and placing them with available opportunities registered on the system. We also provide career counselling services, which include psychometric assessment where necessary, and job interview preparation" said Ms Ludada.
The session was attended by work-seekers from around Klerksdorp and different institutions of higher learning, training, vocational education and training (TVET) colleges, funding institutions, and Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs).
