The CCMA formalises a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Employment and Labour to utilise labour centres for CCMA matters
18 October 2022

The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA)’s efforts to expand its footprint and increase its accessibility by reaching as many Users as possible, including those in remote areas, have received the much-needed boost. This comes after the CCMA’s Director, Advocate Cameron Sello Morajane and the Department of Employment and Labour (DEL)’s Director- General, Mr. Thobile Lamati, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 30 August 2022.

The purpose of the MOU seeks to formalise the use of DEL’s labour centres as venues for CCMA matters with no cost implications. Advocate Cameron Sello Morajane said, "The formalisation of this long-standing working relationship with DEL will ensure that the CCMA will be more accessible to its Users, especially those in far – reaching areas in which the CCMA had no physical offices or footprint."

Mr. Thobile Lamati said DEL continues to be committed to supporting the CCMA reach the vulnerable sectors in the labour market in order to enable them to access CCMA services. "Of importance to the DEL is having all DEL public entities functioning optimally despite financial constraints," concluded Mr. Lamati.
