9 June 2025

Pretoria – Supported Employment Enterprises (SEE), an entity of the Department of Employment and Labour (DEL), in collaboration with key government departments and stakeholders, is proud to announce crucial two-day policy dialogue sessions focused on "Transitioning of Persons with Disabilities into Employment." This event, scheduled for June 12th and 13th, 2025, at the Southern Sun Hotel, in Pretoria, aims to address the systemic barriers faced by persons with disabilities in accessing sustainable employment opportunities.

Many persons with disabilities are excluded from basic and tertiary education, leading to significant challenges in entering the workforce. These policy dialogue sessions will facilitate a vital discussion to develop a guiding framework that will inform a national policy on this critical transition. The objective is to foster interdepartmental integration, improve vocational training, and enhance job placement services, ensuring that persons with disabilities can fully participate in the open labour market.

The policy dialogue sessions will bring together a diverse panel of experts, including representatives from the Department of Basic Education (DBE), Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), National Treasury, Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities (DWYPD), EU diplomats, employer stakeholders, Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), SETAs, NGOs, and Special Schools/Schools of Skills. Discussions will focus on practical solutions, including leveraging the capabilities of Supported Employment Enterprises (SEE) factories for training and learnerships.

This policy dialogue signifies our unwavering commitment to creating an inclusive society where persons with disabilities have equitable access to education and meaningful employment. By working together across government and with our valued partners.

The Department of Employment and Labour urges all relevant stakeholders to participate in this transformative event, which promises to lay the groundwork for a more inclusive and economically empowered future for persons with disabilities in South Africa.
