The Port Elizabeth Labour Centre has been closed after a fire sparked by an electrical fault engulfed the offices but it is anticipated that the centre will be back in action on Thursday 10 December. To make up for the closure, management has decided that the operating hours for the labour centre will be extended as follows: Thursday - Friday: 07:30 - 17:00 Saturday: 08:00 - 12:00. "The fact that we had a fire should not inconvenience our clients and that is why we are aiming to have the centre open as quickly as possible and also to extend operating hours to allow clients an opportunity to be helped," said the Department’s Eastern Cape head Ms Nomfundo Douw- Jack. The emergency services assisted to put the fire out in the early hours of the morning of 08 Dec 2020 before it caused extensive damage. Clients are advised that Departmental services continue to be offered in the nearest office which is the Uitenhage Labour Centre. The department apologises for the inconvenience caused.
