The Department of Employment and Labour's Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) branch has organised an Agricultural seminar to focus on improving working conditions for workers in the sector.
The main focal point of the seminar will be to highlight the shortcomings in implementation of labour laws. The seminar will be held under the theme: “Paying the National Minimum Wage is the right thing to do".
The Department has lined a number of presentations focused on: National Minimum Wage Act and Regulations; the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA); employment of foreign nationals in the Agricultural Sector; Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Benefits; reported cases to CCMA. The gathering will also provide for interactive engagement.
The seminar is expected to be addressed by Department of Employment and Labour Inspector General, Aggy Moiloa; Department's Acting Chief Director: Statutory & Advocacy Services, Advocate Michael Msiza, Department's Advocacy & Stakeholder Relations Director, Dr Pravine Naidoo; Department's Mpumalanga Province Provincial Chief Inspector, Boikie Mampuru; Department's Specialist Inspector in Mpumalanga, Vuyo Dyalvani; a speaker from Department of Home Affairs, the CCMA and organised labour representatives.
