Minister of Employment and Labour to host Jobs and Careers Fair and an Employers’ breakfast session- Ekurhuleni, Gauteng
10 April 2024

The Honourable Minister of Employment and Labour, T.W Nxesi, together with the Department of Higher Education & Training, and Department of Small Business Development will host the Jobs and Careers Fair at the Rabosotho Community Hall in Tembisa. This event is part of an initiative to engage with individuals seeking employment, providing them with the opportunity to interact with potential employers and gain insights into crucial career paths.

Subsequently, the Minister will deliver a keynote address at the Employers’ Breakfast session, scheduled to take place at the Kempton Park Civic Centre. Both events are slated for Friday, 12 April 2024.

These events are designed to combat the escalating unemployment rate in Gauteng. The Department of Employment and Labour in Gauteng province persistently establishes platforms where both the unemployed and underemployed, particularly the youth, can interact with employers from various industries and sectors. This interaction facilitates access to job opportunities and learning experiences. The Jobs and Careers Fair is recognized as one of the most effective platforms for empowering job seekers, providing them with information on job opportunities, learning prospects, and strategies to enhance their employability.

These events will convene stakeholders, including targeted employers, trade unions, and representatives from all three levels of government. The objective is to engage in discussions on potential solutions and interventions necessary to address the pressing issue of unemployment in Gauteng province.

“The anticipated outcome of the Employers Breakfast session and the Jobs and Careers Fair is to foster partnerships with provincial employers and other organizations involved in the recruitment and placement of job seekers. The primary goal is to empower job seekers with pertinent information and toolkits to secure employment,” stated Tshepo Mokomatsidi, the Chief Director of Provincial Operations in Gauteng.

The anticipation is that leaders in the political and administrative domains from all three tiers of government will accompany the Minister and Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour at the forthcoming events.
