The Department of Employment and Labour has officially opened the Mogwase Labour Centre in Moses Kotane Local Municipality, North West Province. This milestone marks a decisive step in government's commitment to improve access to employment and labour services, especially for communities historically underserved.
Speaking at the launch, Minister of Employment and Labour, Honourable Nomakhosazana Meth, emphasised that the new centre is a frontline instrument of service delivery, designed to reduce backlogs, shorten turnaround times, and restore trust in public institutions.
“This Labour Centre exists for one reason: to make the state work better for the people, especially workers, jobseekers, young people and entrepreneurs," said Minister Meth.
The North West Province faces significant labour market challenges, with an official unemployment rate of 36% and youth unemployment exceeding 55%. The Mogwase Labour Centre will provide critical services, including:
This initiative complements the Labour Activation Programme (LAP) launched in March 2025, which invested R779 million to create pathways for approximately 27,000 beneficiaries across the province.
The Department has also deployed mobile units under its “Services on Wheels" campaign to ensure communities across Bojanala District, including Rustenburg, Madibeng, Moses Kotane, and Kgetlengrivier receive UIF, employment registration, and compliance support.
“A capable state is not measured by strategy documents; it is measured by what happens at the frontline. This Centre is about outcomes: faster service delivery, improved compliance, and real opportunities for youth and jobseekers," added the Minister.
The Department calls on the people of Mogwase and the surrounding areas to use the centre, engage with it, and hold us accountable. Together, we can build a capable, ethical, and developmental state that delivers dignity and economic participation for all.
