The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) will be embarking on a service delivery drive in the Kouga and Koukamma Municipalities from 20-24 September 2021 utilizing their well-equipped bus that is fully installed with computers to service and process UIF benefits on the spot.
The procurement of the UIF- Bus realised its inception in June 2021 when it was launched by the Honourable Minister, Thulas Nxesi and have since been working around the clock in different provinces especially those that were hard hit by the recent unrests.
Employment and Labour Department has received a number of UIF enquiries from clients in the identified areas which informed the decision to bring the services closer to the people in an effort to resolve complex cases," said Director UIF: Vernon McLeod.
“As the month of September is earmarked as Public Service month, the Department has the responsibility to be intentional in addressing service delivery issues in order to alleviate social ills, protect the vulnerable and improve beneficiaries' quality of life. And with the availability of the UIF-Bus, the Department's integrated services can reach clients in far flung areas of Sarah Baartman District" said the Chief Director Provincial Operations: Nomfundo Douw Jack.
“The outcry for our services in remote areas in particular UIF has led to the Department employing innovation as a response to the needs on the ground. As we are in the middle of a pandemic people are losing their jobs while others are put on short time by employers, this has resulted in long queues in our offices.
“The number of UIF enquiries have grown drastically but with the UIF-Bus we are certain the Department will address such bottlenecks and create good story moments for the clients", she said.
The UIF contributes to the alleviation of poverty in South Africa by providing short-term relief through unemployment insurance benefits to all workers who qualify for such unemployment-related benefits.
