The Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) Unit of the Department of Employment and Labour in the North West Province encourage employers to engage and use the services that it offers, and not to wait for inspections to comply with the labour laws in the workplace.

The Unit is responsible for enforcing the Labour Law and key Acts, including Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHS), the Compensation of Occupational Injuries & Diseases (COIDA), the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), the Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA), Unemployment Insurance Contribution Act (UICA) and the Employment Equity Act.

According to the Acting Provincial Chief Inspector in the Province, Daniel Moshodi, when the inspectors go out for inspections, they should not be seen as fault finders. He says during inspections they do not look out for noncompliance only, they also advise employers on ways they can work with the Department to ensure compliance in the workplace.

“We urge employers not to wait for us if they are not sure of anything that relates to their obligations as employers, we are available to assist. They do not have to wait for inspections as it might be too late and by then we might have to enforce compliance which at times becomes costly" said Moshodi

The Department has ten (10) regional offices in the province, employers are urged to visit them to be assisted in any of the Labour Law aspects they may have challenges with.
