The Department of Employment and Labour's Public Employment Services (PES) unit, is set to host a provincial dialogue on the National Labour Migration Policy and draft Employment Services Bill in Louis Trichardt, Limpopo Province.
The National Labour Migration Policy and Employment Services Bill was approved by Cabinet in February 2022 and gazetted in March 2022 by Minister of Employment and Labour, Thulas Nxesi.
The session targets government departments (national and provincial), state owned enterprises; municipalities; (district and local); employers, social partners (business, community and organised labour); religious sector/leaders; Parliament; traditional leaders; research and academic institutions; international organisations, non-government organisations, and constitutional institutions.
The session will discuss among others, innovative practices related to labour migration governance, identifying labour migration governance progress, gaps and challenges in the country, as well measures ensuring that the public is sufficiently equipped on issues related to the Labour Migration.
Discussions will also tackle the review of the immigration, refugees and citizenship legislation, intervention strategy to address the high prevalence of foreign nationals in micro businesses and spaza shops, and the protection of labour migrants among others.
Furthermore, the session will provide a platform for tripartite partners to re-organise and re-strategise labour governance. The Department aims to ensure that all stakeholders are well-informed and in support of the policy.
The dialogue is scheduled to take place as follows:
