Employment and Labour Portfolio Committee Conducts Oversight Visits in Gauteng, 8-11 October 2024
09 October 2024

The Portfolio Committee on Employment and Labour is undertaking a four-day oversight visit to various Employment and Labour offices, including the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), Compensation Fund (CF), Labour Centres, and farms in Gauteng Province. This visit commenced on 8 October and will continue until 11 October 2024.

The oversight activities encompass visits to the Department of Employment and Labour's headquarters, various funds, and selected labour centres within Gauteng. The primary objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of these centres and the Department in delivering services such as employment assistance, counselling, job placement, unemployment insurance, and dispute resolution.

Additionally, the visit aims to examine the enforcement of labour laws by inspectors, especially in high-risk sectors. The committee will engage with department employees, union representatives, employers, and the public to gather direct feedback on service quality and operational challenges. The visit will also review the Department's ICT management and resource allocation to ensure efficient service delivery, with a focus on staff capacity, training, and infrastructure adequacy.
