The esteemed Minister of Employment and Labour, T.W. Nxesi, in collaboration with the Department of Small Business Development and the Department of Higher Education & Training, will host a Jobs and Careers Fair at the Maluti Civic Centre in Matatiele on the 2nd and 3rd of May, 2024. The Minister of Employment and Labour will also present a keynote speech at the Employers' Breakfast session, scheduled to take place at the Council Chambers of the Matatiele Local Municipality.
The primary goal of the Jobs and Career Fair is to empower the youth and all job seekers by facilitating their interaction with potential employers, thereby providing them with information on job opportunities and self-employment initiatives. Services such as registration on the employment database, counselling, and assistance with job search tools and assessments will be made available.
The Jobs Fair also aims to disseminate information to key stakeholders, including Employers, Trade Unions, Institutions of Higher Learning, and Provincial and Local Government. This will create a platform for the presentation of career opportunities to the participants and foster a dialogue on labour market issues and growth prospects for job creation.
In the lead-up to the career fair, there will be preparatory activities aimed at bringing services closer to the people in the outskirts areas. These include registration of unemployed job seekers, handling of Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) claims and inquiries/complaints, Compensation Fund (CF) claims and inquiries/complaints, and provision of assistance with Labour complaints related to the National Minimum Wage and other basic conditions.
