Employment and Labour Deputy Minister to lead blitz inspections in Northern Cape

As part of the build-up activities leading to the upcoming Presidential Imbizo, the Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour, Jomo Sibiya, in collaboration with the Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Prince Zolile Burns-Ncamashe, will lead a series of Multidisciplinary High-Impact Blitz Inspections in the Northern Cape Province on Thursday, 24 July 2025.

 

This initiative underscores government's commitment to ensuring compliance with labour legislation, promoting fair labour practices, and enhancing workplace safety. The Department of Employment and Labour has partnered with key stakeholders including the Department of Home Affairs, the South African Police Service (SAPS), and other enforcement agencies to conduct joint inspections and ensure no sector is left behind.

 

The Department's Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) branch has developed a comprehensive project plan to enforce the following legislation:

 

  • Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA)
  • National Minimum Wage Act (NMWA)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
  • Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA)
  • Unemployment Insurance Contributions Act (UICA)
  • Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA)
