Employment and Labour Department brings government services to the people of Willowmore - Eastern Cape

The Department of Employment and Labour in the Eastern Cape Province is currently hosting its “Taking Services to the People Campaign" and held the first session in the Dr Beyers Naudè Local Municipality, Willowmore, yesterday 24 November 2022. 

As part of ensuring quality government services are brought closer to the vulnerable communities in remote areas, the Department of Employment and Labour hosted its quarterly major communication campaign in Willowmore. The campaign will be followed by an employer advocacy session to be held today, 25 November 2022 in Graaff-Reinet. The employer session aims to advocate for employers on compliance with regard to labour legislation within the Inspectorate and Enforcement Services, the National Minimum Wage Act, Unemployment Insurance Act, the Compensation for Injuries and Diseases Act and Employment Services Act. Moreover, one of the Department's entities, the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) will provide a presentation on unfair labour practices on the day.

The effectiveness of the campaign is measured by the number of clients the Department has assisted and reached out to and thus far below is an accumulative statistics on the number of clients assisted;

Claims refused: 1
New apllications: 37
Payments: 69

The total amount paid for UIF claims is R200 795.36 thus far.

 

 

Stakeholders who are part of the event bringing services on the spot have the following statistics:

  • First National Bank – new accounts opened: 10 
  • Department of Agricluture, Land Reform and Rural Development -  enquiries on illegal evictions: 4
  • Department of Health -  Blood pressure testing -26, diabetes: 26, HIV test: 20, TB test: 3, COVID -19: 18
  • TEBA – No ex-mineworkers in the area

Total clients attended is 461.

The “Taking Services to the People" campaign continues today, 25 November 2022 between 09h00 - 15h00 at the Mayor's Garden. TEBA PTY LTD will also be available to provide assistance to all ex-mineworkers.
