The Department of Employment and Labour's Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) hosted a highly successful media networking session at the Garden Court Hotel in Kimberley, Northern Cape, on Tuesday, 09 December 2025. The engagement reaffirmed the Fund's commitment to strengthening relationships with both local and national media, while ensuring that communities across the province continue to receive accurate, reliable, and timely information about UIF services.

The session brought together representatives from traditional and digital media platforms to discuss key UIF programmes, ongoing service improvements, and the Fund's efforts to enhance benefits processing and overall service delivery.

Addressing attendees, UIF representative Isaac Mogorosi emphasised the pivotal role of the media in facilitating access to information for the public.

“Our mission is to serve clients with dignity, efficiency, and transparency. Today's engagement reinforces the essential role the media plays in helping the Department reach people in both remote and urban areas, ensuring they understand their rights and know how to access UIF benefits," said Mogorosi.

During the event, the UIF also provided an update on the implementation of Labour Activation Programme (LAP) projects across the Northern Cape. These initiatives support job creation, skills development, and economic participation by offering training opportunities to unemployed individuals, including former UIF contributors and young people entering the labour market.

The Northern Cape's unique economic landscape, dominated by mining, agriculture, renewable energy, and tourism, presents both opportunities and challenges, particularly related to limited employment prospects. Several LAP projects in the province have already delivered positive results, including increased job placement rates, expanded access to technical skills, and strengthened partnerships between government, the private sector, and training institutions.

Media attendees were also afforded the opportunity to raise questions, seek clarity, and propose communication approaches better aligned with the province's unique geographical and socio-economic context.

The UIF expressed its gratitude to all participants and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining transparent and collaborative engagement with the media.

“Today's dialogue forms part of our ongoing efforts to build trust and accountability. We remain committed to continuing these conversations and working together to keep the public informed," said Zolile Albanie, Chief Director: Provincial Operations: Northern Cape, in his closing remarks.
