Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour to Lead Comprehensive Inspection in Eastern Cape

The Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour, Jomo Sibiya, MP, will lead a multidisciplinary High Impact Blitz Inspection in the Eastern Cape province on Friday, 20 June 2025. This initiative will involve collaboration with the Department of Home Affairs, the South African Police Service (SAPS), and other relevant stakeholders to ensure thorough and effective oversight. The focus of the inspection will be on the construction sector within the province.

The Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) branch of the Department has developed a detailed project plan to conduct joint inspections and enforce compliance with the following employment laws:

  • Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA)
  • National Minimum Wage Act (NMWA)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
  • Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA)
  • Unemployment Insurance Contributions Act (UICA)
  • Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA)
