The Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour, the Honourable Jomo Sibiya, leads the South African delegation to the 11th BRICS Labour and Employment Ministers' Meeting, taking place in Brasília, Brazil, on 25 April 2025.
Held under the overarching theme “Strengthening the Cooperation of the Global South for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance", this high-level forum will deliberate on pressing global labour market challenges, including the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence on the future of work, and the implications of climate change for employment and equitable transitions.
Deputy Minister Sibiya is expected to underscore South Africa's commitment to fostering inclusive labour market policies that both harness the potential of technological innovation and ensure socio-economic justice amid environmental transitions. His interventions will focus on enhancing policy coherence and solidarity among BRICS nations in responding to these dual global imperatives.
The meeting will culminate in the adoption of a Ministerial Declaration, which will outline a strategic roadmap for collaborative action among BRICS member states in addressing these evolving labour and employment challenges.
