Deputy Minister Jomo Sibiya to Lead Advocacy Session at Hangda Steel in Thaba Nchu Following Inspection Findings

The Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour, Jomo Sibiya, together with the Rand Mutual Assurance (RMA), will lead an advocacy session for both employers and employees at Hangda Steel in Thaba Nchu, Free State Province, on 07 November 2025.

This engagement follows unannounced inspections conducted at the company on 23 August 2025, which were initiated following a worker complaint. During the session, the Deputy Minister will provide feedback to employees on the inspection findings and outline the actions taken by the Department in response.

Hosted in collaboration with the Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) of the Department, the session seeks to:

  • Provide feedback on inspection outcomes and issued compliance orders, contravention and prohibition notices
  • Assess progress made in addressing identified areas of non-compliance;
  • Educate employers and workers on their rights and obligations under South Africa's employment legislation; and
  • Engage directly with workers to hear their concerns and evaluate improvements in working conditions following the Department's intervention.
