Department of Employment and Labour takes services closer to the people in Port Shepstone

The Department of Employment and Labour in the KwaZulu-Natal Province, through the Public Employment Services (PES) branch in partnership with UGU District Municipality and its local municipalities, will take services to the people and host a Careers/Jobs Fair in UGU Sports and Leisure.

Deputy Minister Jomo Sibiya (MP) will lead this integrated service delivery programme, providing a comprehensive range of Government services by different Departments and entities to the people of Port Shepstone, Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.

The purpose of the Careers-Jobs Fair is to help work-seekers to gain valuable insight about different career opportunities, including learnerships, internships, apprenticeships, bursaries, and networking. It also seeks to assist work-seekers to receive career counselling, register and apply for available opportunities on the Employment Services South Africa (ESSA) portal.

The event will also see the Department together with its partners hosting a stakeholder engagement session with, amongst other employers, trade unions, private and state-owned entities, and government departments that provide opportunities to work-seekers.

The discussions will centre around the labour laws, national and local government policies, industry growth plans, and employer concerns, and will also offer a platform for potential solutions to foster job creation. The stakeholder engagement session also seeks to create a platform to enable the Department to carry out its mandate to facilitate the creation of jobs. Consultation on the District Development Model will also take place. 

The Stakeholder Engagement programme will run concurrently with the Careers-Jobs Fair, while providing integrated services to the people.

The multi-pronged event will be preceded by a build-up service delivery campaigns that will take place from the 04 - 05 March 2026 where the Department in partnership with other stakeholders (Government Departments, State owned entities and parastatals) will be taking integrated services to Mbulula Community Hall (uMdoni local municipality) and Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality (Dlovunga Community Hall) ahead of the main event that is scheduled for Port Shepstone on the 6th of March 2026.

  • Compensation Fund                     ● Unemployment Insurance Fund
  • CCMA                                           ● Inspection & Enforcement Services
  • Community Services                    ● Economic Development
