Department of Employment and Labour Minister Nomakhosazana Meth to oversee blitz inspections in the hospitality sector – Ga

The Minister of Employment and Labour, Nomakhosazana Meth, is set to oversee blitz inspections in the hospitality sector in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng Province. The inspections are scheduled to take place today, Wednesday, 21 August 2024 around the Springs area.

The Department continues to recognize the importance of compliance across different sectors within the province. These inspections also aim to ensure that the rights of the vulnerable workers are protected. As a consequence, the Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) in Gauteng will focus on the hospitality sector, targeting the following legislation:

  • The Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA);
  • National Minimum Wage Act (NMWA);
  • Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA);
  • Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA);
  • Unemployment Insurance Contributions Act (UICA); and
  • Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA).

The Media is invited to attend and cover these inspections. Upon confirmation of attendance, the media will be provided with details of the specific companies to be inspected.
