Department of Employment and Labour Leads Careers Fairs in the Northern Cape Province with a theme “Pathways to Employment”
18 May 2023

The Department of Employment and Labour in collaboration with other government departments, Sector Education & Training Authorities (SETAs), and the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality will host Careers Fairs as part of the National Careers Week from 24 to 26 May 2023.

The epicentre of the Department's Careers Fair programme will be on 24 May 2023 at De Aar Labour Centre and on 25-26 May 2023 at Kuruman, Northern Cape Province respectively.

In the De Aar Labour Centre the Department will be launching the opening of an Employment Centre. The centre will assist the unemployed to register for work opportunities and provide access to job search and other opportunities for assisting them to secure employment or training opportunities. The Employment Centre is expected to be officially launched by Employment and Labour Deputy Minister, Boitumelo Moloi.

The Kuruman event will see Deputy Minister Moloi on 25 May addressing employers from the area and surrounding. Deputy Minister Moloi will also be launching the Public Employment Service mobile busses. The gathering will also be used to register job seekers on the Department's Employment Services System of South Africa (ESSA) and an opportunity to be assessed for career choices. This will also include number of presenters giving tips to job seekers on their job search.

According to the Deputy Director General: Public Employment Services, Mr Sam Morotoba the main purpose of the Career Fair is to create an opportunity for work seekers to meet with prospective employers and other organisations or departments that can assist with their placement in different forms of employment or learning opportunities.

“Another purpose of these events will be to expose work seekers to the different types of employment opportunities and avenues that they can explore. This can be achieved through the assistance of the Employment Counsellors who will provide their expertise in training work seekers on job hunting skills, how their CV should be structured in order to be attractive to employers, networking and interview skills," Morotoba said.

The event will cater for those who are unemployed, retrenched, learners, parents, Career Development Practitioners and employers. All are encouraged to attend. The two days' program includes activities such as work-seekers registration, motivational talk, job hunting skills, curriculum vitae writing, completing the Z83 application form, networking, and interview skills.
