The Department of Employment and Labour Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) branch will next week bring together specialised teams of inspectors to an Employment Standards Conference.
The assembly will bring together 350 delegates, the majority of whom are inspectors. The conference will be attended by inspectors who enforce the employment standards in the disciplines of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA), Employment Equity Act (EEA), and those who enforce Employer Audits in the form of Unemployment Insurance Contributions (Act), and the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA).
The ES conference will be held under the theme: “Compliance leads to South Africa's Prosperity & Development". The theme is a commitment to reinforcing an obligation to encouraging maximum compliance with employment and labour laws.
The purpose of the conference is to discuss the importance of the labour inspectors' role in inspections with the aim of protecting vulnerable workers in different sectors of the South African labour market.
The conference promises to be an enlightening platform for all participants in the labour market, offering an opportunity to engage in constructive dialogues, exchange ideas, and explore strategies to enhance compliance and maintain equality of inspections.
It is an occasion to not only hear from leadership but also to contribute to the transformation of the inspections and the South African labour market.
The conference will also allow for discussions to collectively navigate the challenges and opportunities in achieving a fair, equitable, and compliant labour market in South Africa.
The conference is expected to be addressed by the Ministry, Departmental executives, labour federations, representatives of academia, the labour court, industry/sector organisations representatives, and the International Labour Organization (ILO).
Media are invited to attend, and the ES conference will be held as follows:
