Department of Employment and Labour in the Free State and GCIS to Empower Youth and Work-Seekers through Career Exhibition

The Department of Employment and Labour, through its Public Employment Services (PES) branch in the Free State, in collaboration with the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), will host a Career Exhibition and Mis – and Disinformation Public Education Workshop for unemployed youth and work-seekers in Mangaung, Bloemfontein and surrounding areas.

The Career Exhibition seeks to connect work-seekers with employment, career development and skills opportunities while providing practical information to help young people navigate the labour market. Participants will have an opportunity to engage with government departments, public entities and other organisations offering information on internships, graduate programmes, Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) programmes and current employment opportunities available across participating institutions.

Participating stakeholders are expected to include the Free State Development Corporation (FDC), Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), Office of the Premier, Wholesale and Retail SETA (W&RSETA), Local government SETA (LGSETA), Health and Welfare SETA, South African National Defence Force (SANDF), and the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).

The exhibition will provide participants with access to:

  • Job-hunting skills guidance
  • Career development guidance
  • Registration of work-seekers on the Employment Services of South Africa (ESSA)
  • Information on internships, graduate programmes, WIL opportunities and vacancies

 

As part of the programme, GCIS will facilitate a Mis- and Disinformation Public Education workshop aimed at equipping young people with knowledge and practical skills to identify, verify and challenge false or misleading information.

The workshop will promote digital literacy, responsible social media use and online safety, with discussions focusing on:

  • Mis-and disinformation awareness and information verification
  • Digital literacy and responsible use of social media
  • Online safety, cybersecurity and cybercrime prevention
  • Protection of personal information and digital identity

 

The South African Police Service (SAPS) Cybercrime Unit will provide information on cybersecurity and cybercrime prevention, while EBL College will focus on digital skills. Motheo FM will highlight the role community radio in disseminating government information and messages to communities.
