Department of Employment and Labour advocates for labour law compliance in the Domestic Worker’s sector in Gauteng Province
23 August 2022

The Department of Employment and Labour in its endeavour to advocate for labour law compliance in the Domestic Worker sector will be hosting a workshop.

The Department through the Inspection and Enforcement Services (IES) branch regularly conducts inspections to employers operating in the Domestic Workers Sector and has found that many are found wanting when it comes to compliance with labour legislation.

The workshop is part of the department's Inspection and Enforcement Services branch to educate stakeholders on labour laws and promote compliance. It is targeted at the workers, employers, employer organisations and trade unions.

The theme of the seminar is: “Paying the National Minimum Wage is the Right Thing to Do".

The programme for the day will focus on compliance with the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Sectoral Determination, including the National Minimum Wage (NMW) Act, compliance with the Unemployment Insurance Fund, and the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases and the referral of disputes to the CCMA.

The Domestic Workers sector is now covered in terms of the National Minimum Wage, which means since 01 March 2022 they are entitled to receive R23.19 per hour.
