Compensation Fund urged Farm Employers to be COIDA compliant
05 September 2025

On Friday, 05 September 2025, the Department of Employment and Labour's Compensation Fund hosted the Farm Employers' Workshop on Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Disease Act (COIDA) Compliance in Kempton Park, Gauteng Province.

The strategic focus of the workshop was on strengthening compliance with the COIDA within the Agricultural Sector and enhancing relations with Farm Employers.

The Compensation Fund used this opportunity to directly engage with Farm Employers to address challenges and provide guidance on COIDA compliance.

The workshop was attended by Farm Employers based in the Gauteng Province. During the workshop, Farm Employers were afforded an opportunity to engage with the Compensation Fund with regard to their challenges and find solutions.

In attendance were stakeholders from the Agri Gauteng, Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Gauteng, and Department of Land Reform and Rural Development, who gave messages of support.

At the session, the Compensation Fund was represented by various Chief Directorates, who made presentations on a basket of services offered by the Fund.

Speaking at the workshop was Mr Senkwele Moloya, Deputy Director, Employer Assessments who reminded the Farm Employers to be compliant by downloading, completing, and confirming their registration information (nature of business; date first employee employed, contact details, etc). This information will come in handy should there be occupational incidents.

Ms Tebogo Molopyane, Deputy Director Tenure System representing the Department of Land Reform and Rural Development, highlighted the importance of complying with the Extension of Security Tenure Act (ESTA), which aims to provide long-term security of land tenure for people living on rural or peri-urban land they do not own.

Mr. Ramothupi Mabusela, Super-user from the Compensation Fund, demonstrated to Farm Employers how the CompEasy system works when creating a profile to register employees, also how to register occupational injuries online.

Commissioner Albert Makgoba from the CCMA gave an overview of Conciliation, Arbitration, and Con-Arb hearings to encourage Farmers to resolve any disputes with farm employees.

The Compensation Fund will continuously engage with the Farm Employers in ensuring COIDA compliance in the Agricultural Sector. A Help desk was also available to provide on-site services to the Farm Employers.

Subsequently, on 6 September 2025, the engagements will continue with the Farm Employees in and around Gauteng, where they will be educated on COIDA compliance as well.
