Compensation Fund to host a Seminar on Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act compliance targeting municip
01 September 2022

The Compensation Fund (CF), an entity of the Department of Employment and Labour in partnership with the North West Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) and the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) will host a two-day seminar targeting municipalities in the province.

This seminar is part of a series of engagements scheduled by CF, that would see different stakeholders at both provincial and local government level and organised labour respectively taken through the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA) in an effort to increase compliance by both spheres of government.

The Compensation Fund exists to administer the COID Act. Its main objective is to provide compensation for disability, illness and death resulting from occupational injuries and diseases.

In terms of the COID Act, employers must register with the Compensation Fund and pay an annual assessment fee based on their workers' earnings and the risks associated with the type of work being done however there are some who are exempted from paying this assessment fee.

The two-day seminar programme will focus on the status of municipal COIDA compliance in the North West Province; registration, assessment; municipal exemption; compensation benefits; CompEasy registration; query resolution processes and a presentation on Government Pension Administration processes.

It will be held under the theme: “Compensation Fund working with municipalities on COIDA to protect vulnerable workers".

The targeted officials include Municipal Managers, Chief Financial Officers, officials responsible for Corporate Services and Human Resource.

Media is invited to attend and provide coverage.

The seminar will be held as follows:

Date               : 06-07 September 2022

Time               : 9H00–16H00
