According to the Provincial Chief Inspector,Chris Sithole, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) remains a major area of concern, with numerous violations recorded.
“It is alarming that employers continue to disregard the General Safety Regulations, 1986 (as amended). Many fail to conduct workplace risk assessments or provide employees with the required personal protective equipment (PPE) as stipulated in GSR 2(1) and GSR 2(2). Additionally, some employers neglect to provide pressure testing reports for compressors, which poses a serious safety risk," said Sithole.
Sithole emphasised that the inspectorate will continue enforcing compliance rigorously, ensuring that all employers adhere to labour laws. Those found in violation will face legal consequences as prescribed by legislation.
