Nomakhosazana METH, MP

Nomakhosazana Meth is a distinguished South African politician currently serving as the Minister of Employment and Labour of the Republic of South Africa. She is the Member of the National Assembly and Cabinet, deployed by the ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC). She is the member of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the ANC and has served as Chairperson of the ANC Women's League in OR Tambo Region.
Born in Ntabankulu in a village called Hlankomo in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, Meth's humble upbringing was instrumental in her journey in life. Her rich education background is testament to the fact that growing up, education was the cornerstone which gave her solid grounding and a zeal to accomplish.
She holds a Certificate in Education and Empowerment Program (EEP) from the National School of Government (NSG). She has a Certificate in SA Government Law from the University of Zululand. She holds a Certificate in Executive Municipal Leadership Development Programme (EMLDP) from the University of Pretoria. She obtained a Certificate and an Advanced Certificate in Local Government Law and Administration from the University of Fort Hare. She holds Honours in Public Administration degree from the University of Fort Hare.
Meth has a distinguished political career spanning many years with significant milestones as testament to her contribution at various levels of government; local, provincial and now national level. She served as the Chairperson of Mbizana Local Labour Forum and subsequently, the Council Speaker for Mbizana Local Municipality. She also served as the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) and the Council Speaker of the OR Tambo District Municipality. Between 2011 and 2016, she was the Chairperson of the South African Local Government Association Eastern Cape (SALGA), and a member of the Performance Assessment Panel of the Public Service Commission (PSC). In 2016 to 2019, Meth was the member of the National Executive Committee of the South African Local Government (SALGA). She was the member and subsequently, a Chairperson of Eastern Cape Socio-Economic Consultative Council (ECSECC) from 2019 until 2021. She was a transformational Executive Mayor of OR Tambo District Municipality, a position she occupied until her exit to provincial government.
In 20219, Meth entered the provincial government sphere as the Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL) of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature. She was appointed as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform. In 2021, during the reshuffle by the Premier, Meth was appointed as the Member of the Executive for Health. Albeit with many challenges, her determination to change the lives of ordinary citizens saw her bringing change through partnerships she established in the sector.
In 2024, Meth entered the national government sphere as the Member of Parliament (MP) of the National Assembly of South Africa. As the current Minister of Employment and Labour, Nomakhosazana Meth's journey is testament to her commitment to public service and determination to make a difference in the lives of the people of South Africa and the world.
