The Chief Economist at Productivity SA, Dr Leroi Raputsoane says the South African economy has experienced a deterioration in Production Efficiency. Dr Raputsoane was speaking ahead of the official launch of the 2019 Productivity Statistics.

Dr Raputsoane says in the same period, the unit labour costs, which measure the average cost of labour per unit of output, increased sharply in the Primary sector reflecting the deterioration of output growth in the sector.

Compensation levels also fell considerably which drove down costs of production in the economy. The 2019 Productivity Statistics will be officially launched on 10 December 2019 and members of the media are invited to event as follows:

Date: Tuesday, 10 December 2019

Time: 9h00 -10h00

Venue: Accolades Boutique Venue, 72 Dale Rd, President Park AH, Midrand

The Chairman of Productivity SA, Professor Mthunzi Mdwaba says the release of the statistics is key in creating a platform for understanding how an improvement in productivity in the private and public sectors can help spur economic growth in South Africa.
