District Development Model Champs Collaborate towards the Contribution of Employment Creation
20 November 2023

The Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour, Boitumelo Moloi who is the District Development Model (DDM) Champion in Buffalo City Metro in collaboration with the Deputy Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Nkosi Phathekile Holomisa, a District Development Model (DDM) Champion for Amathole District Municipality will be hosting a Jobs, Training and Skills Development Fair on 28 November 2023 at Amathole DM followed by an Employment Breakfast Session on the 29 November 2023 at Buffalo City Metro.

As part of creating optimal delivery of services and reducing the impact of the triple challenges of poverty, inequality and unemployment particularly amongst women, youth, persons with disabilities, ex-offenders, parolees, probationers and victims of crime, an integrated district-based approach to address service delivery challenges was created by government. The District Development Model(DDM) is a practical Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) mechanism to enable all three spheres of government including civil society to plan, budget and implement one-plan.

In light of the DDM spirit, the Jobs, Training and Skills Development Fair will be held at Amathole District Municipality and will bring together work seekers and potential employers, provide opportunities to various organisations to present current and future jobs, learning and entrepreneurial opportunities to work seekers and provide work seekers with registration services, career information, employment counselling, and job searching tools amongst others.

The employer breakfast session to be held in Buffalo City Metro is aimed at bringing together stakeholders such as employers, trade unions, civil society, institutions of higher learning, and government to curve out strategies that will further assist in denting the high unemployment rate in the province. The Department of Employment and Labour will also share policy developments towards an enabling environment for employment creation and a dialogue about labour market issues and growth prospects to create jobs.

As the precursor to the above activities, the Department of Correctional Services will be handing over a house to a destitute family that had a dilapidated house with unbearable conditions in Pewuleni Location. A communal garden for the benefit of the Pewuleni Location community will also be handed over to ensure food security

The outreach project will be preceded by build-up activities which will take place as follows:
