The Department of Employment and Labour is to host an advocacy session with stakeholders on compliance with the employment equity (EE) Act.
The stakeholders include Designated Employers, EE Forum Members, Trade Unions, EE Managers, All Government Departments, Municipalities, and State-Owned Entities.
Held under the theme: “Transformation is a process and not an event" - the advocacy session follows several Director-General (DG) Reviews to designated employers in both the Private Sector and Public Sector that showed the need for advocacy. A wide range of non-compliance issues were unearthed, hence the arrangement for an advocacy session.
The DG reviews were conducted to determine the employers' compliance with the Employment Equity Act. The outcome of this exercise has indicated a need for an advocacy session with all role players, especially in the employment equity space to avoid perpetual referral to court on non-compliance with EEA by these Departments.
The Department is planning to subject the departments to further EE review.
The programme of the session will focus on compliance status with EE and the Employment Equity Amendment Bill of 2018.
