Public Service Strike-Mdladlana

by Gabriel Mothiba last modified 2010-08-30 03:46

30 August 2010

Labour Minister, Membathisi Mdladlana says the continuation of the public service strike which has crippled the economy over the past 10 days, is not in the interest of both the employer and the employees. The Minister has called on these parties to endevour to find a settlement. Mdladlana has emphasized that the strike is a dispute between the employer and its employees and a collective bargaining matter which should only be resolved through collective bargaining.

“Unfortunately collective bargaining requires that employers and employees should remain in the bargaining council and it, therefore, worries me that the two parties are not in the collective bargaining chamber”, Mdladlana said.

Mdladlana says he is offering the services of the most senior commissioners of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration to be mediators in a bid to help find a settlement to the impasse.

“Unfortunately we cannot force the parties to mediate but I certainly offer the CCMA services,” said Mdladlana.
