Mdladlana to launch 10th equity report

by Lloyd Ramutloa last modified 2010-07-21 13:29

21 July 2010

Labour Minister, Membathisi Mdladlana, is to launch the much-awaited 10th Commission of Employment Equity (CEE) report in Pretoria next Thursday (July 29).

The document will detail progress in transforming the workplace since the dawn of the new dispensation and in particular since the passing of the Employment Equity Act.

The law seeks to address inequities in the workplace in the areas of race, gender and people with disabilities.

A lot of media attention is likely to go to race disparities in top and senior management, especially in the private sector, judging by the slow pace of transformation in the area. According to the 9th CEE report, an overwhelming majority of top and senior management positions were occupied by white males, with African males lagging far behind.

Also worrying for the Minister has been the slowness by institutions – both public and private – in embracing people with disabilities on the staff complement.

The Minister is expected to paint the latest picture as well as steps to remedy the situation.

The event will be preceded by a media briefing at his official residence in Pretoria on Wednesday (July 28) at 6pm.
