Minister urges employers to release workers for polls
20 April 2009
Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana today urged all South African employers to allow their employees time off to go and cast their votes in the Wednesday (Apr 22) general elections.
“I am appealing to all employers in the country to allow their employees to exercise their democratic right and go to the polls to cast their votes. I am pleased by reports that some employers in the farming sector have already granted their workers leave for the day to be able to go and vote. That is a commendable gesture which I am hoping will be emulated by employers in all other sectors as well,” he said.
