Wholesale & Retail Wage increases 2008/2009

Minimum wages in the Wholesale & Retail Sector have been increased with effect from 1 February 2008.

Minimum wages in the Wholesale & Retail  Sector have been increased with effect from 1 February 2008.  The increases for Area A and Area B wages were linked to the CPIX, published by Statistics South Africa that was available, six weeks’ prior to 1 February 2008 plus one percentage point.  This translated to minimum wage increases of 8.9% for Area A and B employees.  The hourly rate of employees working 27 ordinary hours per week or less was also increased by 8.9%.

 

Attached is a comprehensive table reflecting minimum wages applicable to employees of different Areas.

 

Table 1reflects minimum wages applicable to Area A employees.  Table 2 reflects minimum wages for Area B employees.
