Minister of Labour, Membathisi
Mdladlana, has announced the appointment of Mr. Lodewyk Ferreira as
Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF)
with effect from the 1st of January 2008.
“One of his important portfolios will
be to manage the more than R25 billion financial assets of the UIF,”
the Minister said.
Ferreira was one of the four Executive
Managers appointed by the Minister in 2004 to help salvage the fund
which was performing dismally at the time.
Armed with a B Com Accounting degree
from the University of Pretoria and a Certificate in Investment
Management from the University of South Africa in 2006, Ferreira is
also a member of the South African Institute of Professional
Accountants (SAIPA), the South African Institute of Chartered
Accountants (SAICA) as well as the Institute of Directors in South
Africa (IOD)
He boasts 22 years of working
experience, 15 years in the private sector as Internal Auditor,
Financial and Commercial Manager and Managing Director (Iscor Balaton
PTY (LTD)) mainly in the Iscor LTD group of companies.
The seven years Public sector
experience was mainly as Internal Auditor and Internal Audit consultant
to the Department of Land Affairs and the last 3 years with UIF.
Minister Mdladlana said Ferreira has
contributed immensely to the financial successes of the Fund over the
past two financial years in which the Fund received unqualified Audit
Reports from the Auditor General.
“It is important for us to build on the
incredible success that the UIF has achieved over the past few years in
line with our Mission to render an effective and accessible service to
all stakeholders, and administering the Fund professionally,” the
Minister said.
Commenting on his appointment, Ferreira
said he felt greatly honoured by the appointment and pledged a
committed service to the Department of Labour, the UIF, and the clients
of the UIF.
Ferreira takes over from former CFO,
Boas Seruwe, who is now Unemployment Insurance Commissioner.
