Minister Mdladlana to speak at the ILC
Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana will appraise the International Labour Conference on the country’s efforts

Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana will appraise the International
Labour Conference on the country’s efforts at employment creation and
skills development. He will address the ILC plenary
in Geneva tomorrow (Wed), the Ministry has announced.
Lesotho Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili is also scheduled to address
the international community of workers, business and labour government
Ministers on the same day.
The Minister will highlight among other issues
Ground covered by South Africa in achieving the ILO programme of
Decent Work,
Promotion of rural employment for poverty reduction,
Skills for improved productivity, employment growth and
development,
He will also appraise the international community on the so-called
xenophobic attacks in SA.
During this 97th session of the world labour conference, South
Africa has been re-elected to the all powerful Governing Body of the
International Labour Organisation for the period 2008 –
2011. The country got the most votes in the Continent and
got the second most support from the international community.
Business Unity South Africa’s Vic van Vuuren and Labour’s Ebrahim Patel
have been both re-elected as members of the Governing Body.
It was also during this session that one of the country’s leading
businessman, Prof Wiseman Nkuhlu was formally elected to lead the world
employer organization at the International Labour
Organisation.
In 2006 – 2007, Minister Mdladlana representing South Africa,
chaired the Governing Body, which is the executive body of the
International Labour Office whose function is to discuss ILO policy
issues, future programmes of the organization, including the agenda of
the annual International Labour Conference.
