The Labour Department has once again urged workers to take full charge of their workplace health and safety

Released by Department of Labour on 29 May 2008

The Labour Department has once again urged workers to take full charge of their workplace health and safety at all times to avoid unnecessary injuries and fatalities.

This caution comes in the wake of a North West farm worker’s gruesome death when he was attacked and eaten by lions he was allegedly preparing to feed on Tuesday.

The tragedy occurred at the Uitspan lion breeding farm outside Mafikeng, when the pack of six lions mauled the 50-year-old David Moloane.

While Labour inspectors are currently investigating circumstances surrounding Moloane’s death, the Department has emphasized that occupational health and safety in the workplace remains a responsibility of everyone, including workers themselves, to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
