Labour Court orders security employers to pay wages
Two security sector employers were ordered to cough up
Released by Department of Labour on 11 July 2008
Two security sector employers were ordered to cough up to R54 101,
78 in outstanding wages by the Durban Labour Court yesterday, after
ignoring compliance orders issued to them by labour inspectors.
The matters were then filed at the Durban labour court wherein
judgement was handed down unopposed for both cases. The employers had
not paid their employees with wages, severance pay and notice pay
despite labour inspector’s efforts to enforce the law.
Should the companies fail to adhere to the court order, the Sheriff
of Court will then be engaged to attach assets after which the proceeds
of the sale thereof will be paid to the workers.
