Assmang blast death toll rises to six

The death toll of Sunday’s Assmang horror blast in KwaZulu-Natal has risen to six, following the death in hospital of another worker late yesterday (Tue).

The worker lost the battle for his life at a Durban hospital where he was undergoing treatment for 100 percent burns as a result of the fire that engulfed the manganese processing plant when the furnaces exploded. Several others are still in critical condition with varying burn injuries.

Meanwhile all six furnaces at the plant remain closed and operations are at a standstill while a full scale inquiry is underway to determine the exact cause of the tragedy.
