Eastern Cape Centre to enhance Government’s Artisanship Drive
2 March 2009
The significance of artisanship in the government’s economic growth policies will be underlined once again with the launch tomorrow of an Artisans Training and Trade Test Centre in Humansdorp, Eastern Cape.
The centre, a joint initiative of the Labour Department and the Services SETA, will be officially launched by Labour Minister Membathisi Mililani at the Prosperito Centre of Excellence in the coastal town just outside Port Elizabeth.
In a province still reeling from ongoing mass retrenchments by the motor industry – a backbone of its economy – the centre is expected to not only provide relief to the province but to also plug the dearth of artisans and enhance the government’s drive to propel vocational training as the flagship of its ASGISA programme.
Among the scarce skills that the centre will help provide are boilermaking, diesel mechanic; electricity and welding. The media is invited. Details of venue and programme are attached.
