Basic Guide to Skills Programmes

Anyone who develops a skills programme can apply for a subsidy. Disputes must be referred to the Labour Court.

Definition

Skills programmes involve training that –
  • is based on a job;
  • counts as credits towards a registered qualification; and
  • uses training providers.

Based on Legislation in Section 20, of the Skills Development Act

Grants and Subsidies

Anyone who develops a skills programme can apply for –
  • grants from a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA); or 
  • subsidies from the Department of Labour.

Disputes

Disputes about skills programmes must be referred to the Labour Court.
