Employment and labour Minister to launch Employment Centre and the UIF mobile busses in Newcastle
18 June 2021

As part of his ongoing District Development Model activities, Minister of Employment and Labour, T.W. Nxesi, will on 22 June 2021, open an employment centre and launch mobile buses in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal. Minister Nxesi will be accompanied by Mayor of Amajuba District Municipality, Dr Ngubane and other senior officials of the department.

The Centre aims to connect work seekers to potential employment opportunities in Amajuba District Municipality, especially young people. It will also assist jobseekers on strategies on job searching, finding a job and preparing for an interview.

The Department of Employment and Labour currently provides services to clients through labour centres spread around the country. However, there are areas that are under-serviced by the Department, which are mostly in rural parts of the country, and that presents a flaw in the service delivery model of the Department.

In an effort to reach most clients of the Department, the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) has procured eight mobile units (buses) which will be launched by the Minister on the day. The buses will be used for the provision of essential services of the Department, especially in areas without labour centres. The movement of the buses will be controlled and monitored by the Fund. The buses will also be available for strategic outreach programmes such as Izimbizo and "Taking Services to the People".

While the Minister will be launching a Public Employment Service Youth Centre and the Unemployment Insurance Fund’s mobile buses, he will also use the platform to assess progress made in the vaccination process around Amajuba District Municipality.
