Four learners who had been promised uniforms had their expectations met when members of Parliament who had promised to come back with uniforms kept their promise this week.
Unfortunately for Anyolo Mtebeti, Mava Mclean, Atha Godo in Gr2 and Bomikazi Mjekula in Grade 3, Covid interrupted their dream and for the members of Parliament, including our Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour, Boitumelo Moloi, this week finally presented an opportunity to keep the promise.
The promise was made during a Mandela day visit in 2019 to Inkanini primary School in Khayelitsha. DM Moloi had pledged to support four learners with uniform. An elated school principal Ms Siphiwe Ngcotsha welcomed the DM who was also received by the chairperson of the ward Mr Andile Lili, the school Governing Board Member Ms Nomawethu Jafta, and the parents of the four learners.
The deputy minister assured the learners that, this was the beginning of a new journey that she promises to walk with the pupils.
"I want to reassure you that, your past does not have to determine your future. Your environment must not hamstring you to inspire to rise and become the best version of yourselves. Anyone of you can become our future president or leaders of big corporations in the near future," Moloi told the learners.
As a COVID survivor, the deputy minister shared her ordeal with the virus emphasising that, winning the battle against COVID has given her more reason to continue making a difference in people’s lives.
Inkanini primary opened its doors for learning in April 2018, and has since become champions of the Khayelitsha soccer tournament, and taking the ninth (9th) place out of fifty-four (54) schools in the music choir competition.
In 2019, the school received a certificate for achieving 100% improvement in Grade 3 Maths out of 118 primary schools in the Metro East District of the Western Cape.
