The Department of Employment and Labour Inspectorate will embark on a door-to-door compliance monitoring in and around Malelane and Mbombela. All employers across all sectors will be subjected to a full-scale inspection, which will seek to test the compliance with the following legislations: National Minimum Wage Act, Basic Condition of Employment Act; Occupational Health and Safety Act; Unemployment Insurance Act; Unemployment Insurance Contribution Act; and Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Disease Act.
These inspections will include the examination and analysis of documents and the employees will be interviewed. Employers are reminded that it is an offence to obstruct the inspector from conducting his/her duties in line with the employment law and are therefore urged to support this initiative.
There will be no pre-notification beyond this statement and are therefore encouraged to prepare for these inspections, by ensuring that the following documents are available;
Please note Department of Employment and Labour inspectors will carry their inspector's cards when conducting these inspections and this information can be verified through the Provincial Chief Inspector.
