South Africa’s Labour Deputy Minister, iNkosi Phathekile Holomisa is to deliver a keynote address during the official launch of the joint Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), Ntinga O.R. Tambo Development Agency and the Walter Sisulu University (WSU) training partnership to help ex-mineworkers/UIF beneficiaries.

The launch of the training partnership will be held on Monday (April 15) at the Mqanduli Multi-purpose Centre in the Eastern Cape. It will target the ex-miners/UIF beneficiaries particularly in the OR Tambo District  Municipality.

The launch is expected to be attended by members of the Eastern Cape Provincial Executive Committee, Traditional Leaders, Municipal Executives, Leaders of Business, Organised labour and the youth.

The Unemployment Insurance Fund is a public entity of the Department of Labour and is one of the key social security agencies in the country to provide temporary relief to unemployed people.

Ntinga O.R. Tambo Development Agency is a state owned company established by the O.R. Tambo District Municipality as a Special Purpose Vehicle responsible for spearheading Local Economic Development in the O.R. Tambo district and will be training 2000 ex mineworkers. The training will include Apprenticeship, Learnership and Skills training, which will range from 12 months to 3 years to complete.

Walter Sisulu University training will focus on Learnership programme comprising of Plant and Beef farming, Business Management and entrepreneurship, training 5500 learners in the OR Tambo District.
