Trial of Doctor Kealetsa alleged to have defrauded Department of Labour to resume on Wednesday

by lloyd last modified 2012-12-03 14:04

3 December 2012

Doctor Tebogo Ephraim Kealetsa (37) from Pampierstad in the Northern Cape allegedly accused of defrauding the Department of Labour’s (DoL) Compensation Fund (CF) about R680 000 is to appear in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Wednesday (December 5).

Kealetsa faces two counts of fraud. The general medical practitioner has pleaded not guilty. Kealetsa is out on a bail of R5000. His matter was postponed on October 8 due to the unavailability of his legal representative who was engaged in High Court on another matter.

The doctor was arrested on 25 August 2010 after making two alleged “illegal” claims against the Department of Labour’s Compensation Fund. Kealetsa is alleged to have submitted claims “on behalf” of  patients he “never treated”. The department processed his claims in good faith only to discover that these were allegedly untoward.

The Compensation Fund is a public entity of the Department of Labour whose duty is to cover for compensation of workers injured during work or for diseases sustained or contracted thereof.
