Trial of Doctor Kealetsa alleged to have defrauded Department of Labour postponed to November

by lloyd last modified 2012-10-08 16:17

8 October 2012

The matter of Doctor Tebogo Ephraim Kealetsa (37) from Pampierstad in the Northern Cape allegedly accused of defrauding the Department of Labour’s (DoL) Compensation Fund (CF) was today (October 8) postponed by the Pretoria Specialised Crime Court due to the unavailability of his legal representative.

Kealetsa’s legal representative was called on short notice to appear in another Court on a separate matter. The general medical practitioner’s bail of R5000 was extended. He is due to appear next on November 19.

He is alleged to have defrauded the Department of Labour’s (DoL) Compensation Fund (CF) of about R680 000. Kealetsa faces two counts of fraud. He has pleaded not guilty.

Kealetsa was arrested on 25 August 2010 after making two alleged “illegal” claims against the Department’s Compensation Fund. He is alleged to have lodged claims for patients he never treated. The Fund processed his claims in good faith only to discover that these were allegedly untoward.

The Compensation Fund is a public entity of the Department of Labour whose duty is to cover for compensation of workers injured during work or diseases sustained or contracted.
